Facebook: Flats
and Sharps blur the lines between Bluegrass, Folk and Country, performing
classics from the genres and their own highly original songs. These five “incredible
young musicians” honed their skills in four years and more than 300 live
performances charming and wowing audiences along the way.
From their
humble beginning busking in Penzance as 17 year-olds which landed them a four
hour gig at a restaurant Lands End. Lands End was just the beginning of the
journey for Flats and Sharps and four years on they haven’t stopped writing and
performing, adding a fiddle player along the way and building a great
following.
Blurb: Highlights
include a show for the Governor of Kentucky and US Ambassador to the UK; shows
at Jack Wills and Ralph Lauren events; scores of festival appearances at The
Isle of Wight, Camp Bestival and many other Bluegrass, Folk, Country and
Americana Festivals; and gigs at numerous music venues, arts centres, clubs and
corporate events.
Flats and
Sharps are writing great songs with universal appeal which are currently being
recorded with a producer at a top studio in London for release in 2015.
They performed
on the Town Square stage at the Country
2 Country Festival at the O2 in London in March 2015. In review Alan Cackett.com wrote: A relatively young
group, they proved to be not only superb musicians, fine singers and writers of
good original material, but also highly entertaining.
With an
experienced management team (Guy Morris & Oroh Angiama) in place, 2015
promises to be a breakthrough year for these five talented young men who have
their sights set high.
Watch their
cover of "Born To Be With You" filmed live at
The Green Note, Camden 6th December 2014.
Their new EP ALWAYS THERE released June 15, 2015 showcases
their song-writing, vocal and playing talent with the lead track “It’s OK My
Love” getting some radio play and the
video gaining traction. There are four original songs on the
EP as well as a Bluegrass version of the Jesse Fuller song Ninety-Nine Years and One
Dark Day.

“Hudson
Commodore” – “It’s a tough
choice because I really did enjoy this album….lovely tracks on here… I thought
that was just great” - Marie Crichton

Town: Muscle Shoals, AL
Jason
Isbell is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist from Green Hill, Alabama,
in Lauderdale County known for his solo career and as a former member of the Drive-By Truckers for 6 years.
After
spending six years with the Southern rock outfit, singer/guitarist Isbell left
the group in 2007 to pursue a solo career.
Isbell
had already honed his songwriting skills during his tenure with the Truckers,
and he funneled those talents into Sirens of the Ditch, a bluesy, punk-infused
lesson in guitar tones and Southern swagger that marked his solo debut in
summer 2007. Backed by a new band dubbed the 400 Unit, Isbell took his songs on
the road and soon began penning another album, which he recorded with the 400
Unit in 2008. Released the following year, Jason
Isbell and the 400 Unit was another step away from his work with Drive-By
Truckers, relying as much on sad, melancholic country ballads as the familiar
Muscle Shoals sound.
After performing more than 200 shows annually
for several years running, Isbell took a breather in 2010 and returned home to
northern Alabama.
Jason
has released a solo album every two years since 2007, building his fanbase as
he went.
His
last album, SOUTHEASTERN (Southeastern
Records/Thirty Tigers), released June 11, 2013, provided his Top 200 UK breakthrough,
reaching No.136 in 2013. In America Southeastern
landed a No.23 on the Billboard 200
with impressive debut sales of 17,521 copies. An album of “haunting atonement
and redemption”, the sparse and impressive set
proved to be a smash with critics and a commercial success that
introduced Isbell to a new and larger audience, with Isbell and his band
touring extensively in support.
He
took a further big leap with his stylistically diverse new album SOMETHING MORE THAN FREE, released July
17, 2015 made a debut at No.17
(3,256 sales) on the Official UK Top 100
Album Chart (week ending July 30, 2015).
In
America on the Billboard Country Album
chart (dated August 8, 2015) it blocked Alan Jackson from landing a #1 as SOMETHING MORE THAN FREE sold
45,800 copies (#6 Billboard 200/ #1 Billboard Country Albums) edging out
Jackson's ANGELS AND ALCOHOL (45,500 copies sold; #5 Billboard 200/ #2 Country)
Isbell
married the singer-songwriter and violinist Amanda Shires in February 2013, two days after they finished
Southeastern and musician Todd Snider married them. The couple are expecting a
baby, a girl, in September 2015. Previously Isbell was married to Shonna Tucker
in 2002, a fellow musician from the Muscle Shoals, Alabama community, and a
former bass player from Drive-By Truckers.
